Michael J. Maranda, PhD
Dr. Maranda has over 25 years of experience in applied research and evaluation. He holds a doctorate in sociology and a master’s of psychology from NYU. His experience includes conducting applied research and policy analysis in both United States and Europe. Topics he has studied have been related to health, health education, health care substance abuse, education, criminal justice, poverty, ethnicity and nationalism. In his work, he has used both quantitative and qualitative approaches. He has been a consultant to the UNHCR/the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, the European Union’s DG SANCO (Public Health) and DG Transportation and a visiting scientist at the National Institute for Alcohol and Drug Research in Oslo, Norway.
Brian Gugerty, DNS, MS, RN
Dr. Brian Gugerty has been in the clinical informatics field for over 20 years.
He has been a Director of Nursing Informatics at a university affiliated medical center, Product Manager for a clinical information system product line (GE) and a Senior Research Analyst in a clinical informatics research and development group (Siemens).
Gugerty taught graduate courses and conducted evaluation research on clinical information systems at the University of Maryland, School of Nursing, Informatics Department as an assistant professor and he is now an adjunct professor at the school. His other research interests include nursing documentation and patient classification systems/ nursing productivity.
He now maintains a active clinical informatics consultancy focused on design of clinical information systems for health care IT companies and customization and implementation of Electronic health Records and module thereof including CPOE, Barcode Medication Administration and Clinical Documentation systems.
Dr. Gugerty is active in the American Medical Informatics Association as well as other professional societies and initiatives. Dr. Gugerty has widely published and presents on informatics topics including health care IT project management, evaluation of health care information systems and informatics education issues nationally and internationally.
